Those of you who grow flowers are in luck.
The Michigan Greenhouse Growers Expo is joining the Great Lakes Fruit, Vegetable and Farm Market EXPO in Grand Rapids, Mich., Dec. 8-10. If you’re looking to grow more than just vegetable transplants in your greenhouse or you want to improve your flower sales, this could be a perfect merger for you.
The greenhouse expo will feature several speakers, one of whom is Mike Ouding, vice president of River Street Flowerland in Kalamazoo, Mich., the "bedding plant capital of the world."
There certainly are a lot of greenhouses in the area. Ouding’s family has been growing flowers in Kalamazoo for four generations and shows no sign of stopping. They concentrate on annuals, perennials, herbs and hanging baskets, but also sell some fun specialty items.
Ouding will take part in an EXPO session about growing mixed containers. He will be part of a panel of growers who will share tips with the audience. To learn more about his company’s approach to mixed containers – the "fillers, thrillers and spillers" – watch the video below.
