Fruit growers have been clamoring to find a quick solution to the outbreak of Brown Marmorated Stink Bug (BMSB) in the United States. While fruit growers are right to be concerned about this pest, vegetable growers should be concerned, too, said entomologist Tracy Lesky from the USDA Appalachian Fruit Research Station. It seems the bugs have a taste for just about anything producing a fruit, and Lesky said they have been devastating to tomatos and other crops.

What is really troubling about this pest is that there are, as of yet, no effective control measures for dealing with it – and the recent confirmation of BMSB in Michigan has brought the total number of states with the bug up to 30, as well as Washington D.C., said Lesky.
