Asparagus prices announced

Michigan asparagus growers will get 73 cents per pound (cash) from the state’s asparagus handlers this year – 74.5 cents per pound with payment terms, according to Ken Nye, executive director of the Michigan Agricultural Commodities Marketing Association’s Asparagus Division.

Nye announced the processing prices today, during Oceana Asparagus Day in Hart, Mich. Every state handler agreed to the prices, he said.

The prices are based on low stocks of frozen asparagus (indicating good demand) and fewer plantings. Imports have been up, however, Nye said. He encouraged the growers to plant more acres.
