Bejo Seeds showcasing “Tasti-Trio” at PMA Fresh Summit

At the 2015 PMA Fresh Summit and Convention in Atlanta, Oct. 23-25, Bejo Seeds will serve three of its produce items with celebrity chef Mareya, The Fit Foodie, at booth 1727.

According to a news release, this “Tasti-Trio” of produce includes Bejo Seeds’ number one brand of field tomatoes, Tasti-Lee, Farm Stand Fresh Foods proprietary jumbo Kohlrabi, and tender baby pointed-head cabbage Sweetheart Lettage.

Grown nationally, Tasti-Lee tomatoes come in both organic and conventional. These tomatoes were created as a premium, vine-ripened tomato. Tasti-Lee Tomatoes are never artificially ripened or gassed with ethylene for color. They have the highest levels of lycopene in any tomato variety in the United States.

“These GMO-free and sun-ripened tomatoes naturally have 50 percent more lycopene than traditional tomatoes,” Bejo Seeds said. “Tasti-Lee tomatoes carry the Heart-Check Mark food certification from the American Heart Association that helps people identify foods in stores that meet the nutritional standards of the American Heart Association to promote heart-healthy eating habits.

SweetHeart Lettage is a pointed-head cabbage grown from the Caraflex seed, a high-quality vegetable variety produced by Bejo, and is picked young when its leaves are tender, sweet and mild. Sweetheart Lettage has good taste, according to Bejo, and it packs a punch in the health department. It has nine times more Vitamin C, and 21 pecent more calcium than romaine lettuce.

When freshly picked, Farm Stand Fresh Foods Kohlrabi’s  appearance is often compared to resemble an alien spaceship. However, it’s not until after Farm Stand Fresh Foods washes, slices and packages its kohlrabi; the nutritional goodness can be readily enjoyed raw or cooked in a stir-fry, soup, stew or even a fritter. Kohlrabi is a member of the cabbage family, and as such, comes with this family’s signature sweet-but-peppery flavor profile.

Kohlrabi is notably rich in vitamins and dietary fiber; and it has only 27 calories per 100 g, a negligible amount of fat, and zero cholesterol. Fresh kohlrabi stem is rich source of vitamin-C and also contains good amounts of many B-complex groups of vitamins such as niacin, vitamin B-6 (pyridoxine), thiamin and pantothenic acid.

Kohlrabi was recently named by Epicurious Magazine as “the vegetable to cook with right now.”

At this year’s PMA show, Bejo Seedsis a finalist in the Sensory Experience Contest with Chef Mareya’s Kohlrabi Taco Trio. Bejo Seedswill also be participating in the new Fresh Ideas Showcase with their Kohlrabi Veggie Sticks specifically processed for retail and foodservice.
