Controlled environment ag educator joins Ohio State

Ohio State University’s Department of Horticulture and Crop Science has added Chieri Kubota to its staff as professor of controlled environment agriculture (CEA).

Kubota’s research areas include, plant production in controlled environments, vegetable grafting and hydroponics. She also studies value added crop production, transplant production technologies and hydroponic/soilless production.

Kubota’s research mission is to serve in the development of science and technology in the area of CEA.

Her projects are in an interdisciplinary area that encompasses plant physiology and horticultural engineering to enhance understanding and efficiency of CEA plant production systems such as greenhouses, warehouses (vertical farms) and growth chambers.

She was most recently a professor with the University of Arizona’s School of Plant Sciences, Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering.
