Michiana irrigation meeting

The 2012 annual meeting of the Michiana Irrigation Association will be held Dec. 14, from 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m., at the Blue Gate Restaurant & Bakery in Shipshewana, Ind. Registration is required by calling Deanna Mumby at 269-998-1177.

Topics to be covered include: Drought 2012 and the Climate; Overview of Water Use Data and 2012 Water Right Conflicts; Indiana and Michigan’s New Water Use On-Line Reporting; The Great Lakes Compact Permitting Rule; Update on Michigan Southwest Resource Council; Groundwater Sustainability in St. Joseph County, Mich.; Finding Large Capacity Water Supplies for Irrigation and Maximizing Corn Yields with Irrigation.

Speakers for the event include: Mark Basch, IDNR Head, Water Rights & Use Selection, Monique Riggs, IDNR, Water Rights & Use Selection; Jeff Andresen, MSU Geography, Todd Feenstra, Tritium, Bob Nielsen, Purdue University Extension Corn Specialist; Abigail Eaton, MDA; Mike Chapman, Peerless Midwest Hydrologist and Fred Henningsen.

Cost for the meeting is $30, which includes lunch and dues to the association.
