Michigan food processing, agribusiness event set

MiFOOD 2015, the Michigan Food Processing & Agribusiness Summit, will be held May 7 from 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m. at DeVos Place in downtown Grand Rapids, Michigan

According to a news release, the MiFOOD 2015 “tackles some of today’s most challenging issues in the agriculture and food processing industries. Learn from business leaders and industry experts on how you can drive new, innovative strategies for growth, safety and increased efficiency in your company.

“Michigan’s food processing and ag industries are two of the fastest-growing sectors in Michigan’s economy,” the release stated. “The goal of the 2015 summit is to ensure that trend continues and that Michigan growers and processors have access to the resources, education and support they need to succeed.”

Speakers include Gordon Wenk, deputy director, Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development; Mark Flegenheimer, president and CEO, Michigan Sugar Co.; John Sommavilla, CEO, Shoreline Fruit, and Jim Byrum, president, Michigan Agri-Business Association.

Breakout sessions focus on Logistics Growth, Management and Best Practices; Enhancing the Value of a Vertically Integrated Agriculture Business; Exporting; and Water Reduction at Michigan Fruit and Vegetable Food Processors.
