Jan 11, 2016Study: manure application increases nitrogen accumulation
A report in HortScience focuses on a three-year study investigating the impact of co-application of manures with chemical nitrogen fertilizer on nitrogen accumulation and loss. The study was conducted in greenhouse soil rotationally planted with cucumber or tomato and lettuce.
The study, published in the November 2015 issue, found that the application of manures slowed down soil acidification and intensified secondary salinization of the greenhouse soil.
The role of manures in high-input agricultural ecosystems would have to be evaluated carefully, according to the study’s researchers.
