Organic Grower publication, website launching

Great American Media Services, the publisher of Vegetable Growers News and a large family of trade magazines and media websites, recently announced a new arrival.

Organic Grower, a print and digital brand, will include a news website, quarterly print magazine, social media presence and a weekly e-newsletter. The new print and digital brand will focus on the unique needs of the organic farming community, offering in-depth coverage of the latest news, growing techniques and products.

“We’re proud to fill a void in the agriculture industry by offering a new resource that will benefit organic growers nationwide,” said Great American Media Services CEO Matt McCallum.

Great American Media launches the magazine after a survey of agriculture
ndustry showed challenges currently faced by organic growers and a lack of informative resources specific to their needs. The company’s research also showed significant growth of organic growing, with 61% of respondents indicating they intend to expand their organic production in the coming years.

Organic sales at the farm gate as well as the retail sales of organic foods have also reportedly continued to grow from year to year. The Organic Trade Association estimated certified organic food sales reached $47.9 billion in 2018, an increase of 5.9% over 2017. U.S. farms and ranches sold $7.6 billion in certified organic commodities in 2016, up 23% from $6.2 billion from 2015.

The content for Organic Grower will be created by a team of career journalists and thought leaders who have experience working with organic growers, researchers, crop consultants, processors, packer/shippers and related associations. Each print issue will focus on the most pertinent issues facing the organic growing industry, including planting systems, pollinators, weed control, disease control, pest control, food safety, organic certification/audits, labor, soil health, crop rotation and more.

Organic Grower joins a group of agriculture magazines including Fruit Growers News, Vegetable Growers News, Spudman, Produce Processing and Greenhouse Product News. Headquartered in Sparta, Michigan, Great American Media Services includes a total of 15 print business-to-business print magazines, related digital communications and supporting industry events.

“Our award-winning editorial and design team is knowledgeable, dedicated and eager to introduce Organic Grower brand,” McCallum said. In 2019, several Great American Media Services brands were honored in the annual Eddie and Ozzie Awards presented by Folio Magazine. Fruit Growers News received the highest award in the B2B Analysis category, for its Automation Advent article appearing in the February 2019 issue.

The debut issue of Organic Grower will arrive in mailboxes in March 2020. The website and e-newsletter launched in December 2019, complementing the print issues with additional news, product information and insight. Growers are currently able to subscribe and sign up to receive the magazine and free e-newsletter at http://organicgrower.info.
