Campbell’s details its yellow tomato variety

Food processing giant Campbell’s recently detailed its use of a special yellow tomato variety for select processing products.

In a recent post on the company’s newsroom blog, Campbell’s Director of Sustainable Agriculture Dan Sonke discussed the rare harvest. He noted that the company’s tomato processing lines are “normally running red, making tomato ingredients for our soups, sauces and V8 Juices.”

“This field in Dixon, California is the only one to be planted this year with a yellow tomato variety that we developed several years ago. … Normally only harvested every second year, the demand for these yellow beauties was so great that 2018 marks the second year in a row.”

The yellow tomato paste will be used in Pace-brand peach mango and mango habanero salsas, he wrote. The company has also used yellow tomatoes for a yellow V8 Juice in Asia, he added.
