Growers to develop custom food safety manuals at upcoming workshop

A workshop next week will help growers create customized food safety manuals for their farms.

The one-day, hands-on workshop will take place Tuesday, Aug. 8 at Fort Valley State University in Fort Valley, Georgia. The event will help growers understand the basics of food safety as well as know how to create customized food safety manuals for their farm operations. The workshop will have a focus on organic production but isn’t limited to organic producers.

Participants will leave with the beginnings of a food safety manual as well as the confidence to finish the manuals and implement the program on the farm.

The workshop is being offered by Produce Food Safety Services (PFSS), a membership service provided by the Georgia Fruit & Vegetable Growers Association.

Hotel reservations for this event can be made at the Holiday Inn Express & Suites Perry National Fairground Area in Perry, Georgia. The group rate is $108.99 per night plus tax when using the room block code BOB.

The training is supported with funding from a USDA Specialty Crops Block Grant awarded to the Georgia Fruit and Vegetable Growers Association through the Georgia Department of Agriculture.
