NOA annual convention scheduled for December in Savannah

Members of the National Onion Association plan to converge in Savannah, Georgia, for the industry’s yearly convention.

The Dec. 8-11 conference is scheduled for the Alida/Marriott hotel in Savannah’s thriving Riverfront Entertainment District. Different this year, the four-day event, Sunday through Wednesday, will occur at the beginning of the week rather than the latter part as in previous years, according to a news release.

“Join the NOA in Savannah for an annual convention filled with southern charm and beauty,” NOA officials said in the release. “Members will experience the southern beauty, culture and charm of Savannah, Georgia, and invite you to come along for the annual convention.”

Convention registration is $975 per member and $575 per spouse/friend. Registration includes meals and transportation during the group’s farm tours. The NOA is still welcoming convention sponsors.

The event kicks off on Sunday with an evening reception. On Monday, NOA has scheduled general business meetings, which will include a roundtable discussion on a new insurance program called “Cost” insurance. Later that night, a banquet dinner is planned. At the dinner, the organization plans to drape a new 3 or More jacket on members who have recruited three or more new members to the NOA in the past year. The banquet also plans to award a lifetime achievement award and its promotions champion.

On Tuesday, NOA will host a tour of Vidalia onion country before visiting Stanley Lodge for skeet shooting, fishing and dinner. The convention ends with NOA’s crop report breakfast on Wednesday. Researchers with the Specialty Crop Research Initiative-funded project on Mechanical Harvest in Short Day will also will be in attendance.
