Officials Tout Local Farmers Markets, Urge Kansans to Eat Local

Officials Tuesday urged Kansans to buy from the ever-growing number of farmers markets in the state.

“The fruits and vegetables available at Kansas farmers markets typically are harvested within 24 hours of market day, and you just can’t beat that for freshness and flavor,” said Acting Secretary of Agriculture Josh Svaty.

More consumer demand has increased the number of Kansas farmers markets from 26 in 1987 to 81 currently. Lawrence Journal-World
