Penn State names new Extension educator for vegetable crops

Carla Burkle has been named Penn State Extension Educator for vegetable and small fruit crops.

She will be based at the Extension office in Cumberland County and will be responsible for outreach programming and applied research.

Burkle has a strong background and experience in insect pest management having worked with strawberries, blueberries and vegetable crops in Florida. She received her doctorate degree in plant medicine from the University of Florida, where she also performed post-doctoral research.

Mike Masiuk, assistant director of Extension for Horticulture Programs, said Extension was excited to welcome Burkle.

“The Pennsylvania vegetable and small fruit industry will benefit from the additional outreach and applied research efforts at the Southeast Research and Extension Center in Landisville,” he said.
