Sakata Seed hits 100th anniversary

Sakata Seed Corp. celebrates its 100th year in business in June. Sakata was founded in 1913 and is headquartered in Yokohama, Japan. It consists of four divisions operating in Asia, South America, Europe and North and Central America, and conducts business in more than 32 countries.

Sakata Seeds America was established in 1977. It is now a research, seed production and marketing-distribution subsidiary of Sakata Seed Corp. Sakata America Holding Co. was formed in 2010 to serve as the parent holding company for all of Sakata’s business in North and Central America. That operation includes Sakata Seed America, Alf Christianson Seed Co., Sakata Seed de Mexico and Sakata Seed de Guatemala.

Its products are sold under the Sakata and Chriseed brands.
