Southeast tomato growers part of pest management plan

Tomato growers in several states are being urged to participate in the upcoming Workshop for the Pest Management Strategic Plan for Tomato in the Southeast at the Southeast Regional Fruit & Vegetable Conference in Savannah, Georgia, on Jan. 11 from 2 to 5 pm .

According to Inga Meadows, Extension plant pathologist at North Carolina State University, the Pest Management Strategic Plan (PMSP) for Tomato in the Southeast outlines priorities for research, regulation, and outreach to guide activities such as EPA registration of pesticides, government and other agencies allocation of funds for research, scientists in their research endeavors, and other activities related to solving pest management issues on field production of tomato.

Growers, industry representatives, specialists, regulators, and processors are encouraged to participate in this event to update this important document.

States included in this workshop: Mississippi, Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, South Carolina, North Carolina, Tennessee, Kentucky and Virginia.

The workshop is supported by the Southern IPM Center.

Growers are asked to participate from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. and Extension specialists, industry representatives and state and government agencies are asked to participate from 10 a.m,-5 p.m.
