2022 next date set for Ontario Fruit and Vegetable Convention

The Ontario Fruit and Vegetable Convention (OFVC), held annually in Niagara Falls, has announced the cancellation of next year’s event. The convention will be postponed until 2022.

OFVC general manager Glenna Cairnie: “It was cancelled because a physical conference was just out of the question. We saw the writing on the wall that we weren’t going to be allowed to have 3,000 people in one spot.”

For now, there are no plans to take the convention online. Cairnie said poor rural internet service is one of the major reasons behind passing on a virtual conference. But she did hint at a possible development down the line.

Typically held each February, the two-day event draws upwards of 3,000 people, some from as far away as New Zealand, to the Scotiabank Convention Centre.

On the OFVC website, a notice read in part: “We look forward to strengthening our relationship with growers, exhibitors and sponsors as we anticipate returning to our full show in Feb. 2022. Stay tuned to our website and social media for 2022 show information and business opportunities.”

“Regretfully, the OFVC has made the difficult decision to cancel the 2021 show due to the current pandemic.,” according to  statement on the OFVC website. “We look forward to strengthening our relationship with growers, exhibitors and sponsors as we anticipate returning to our full show in February 2022. Stay tuned to our website and social media for 2022 show information and business opportunities. On behalf of the OFVC Board of Directors, we wish all our OFVC friends good health and continued success.

The Ontario Fruit and Vegetable Convention is an annual gathering of horticultural crop producers involved in the production of fruits and vegetables.

The convention is attended by a cross section of the horticultural sector including government, industry, business, consultants, producers, associations, researchers and educators.

Located at the dynamic Scotiabank Convention Centre in Niagara Falls, Ontario, the 2-day convention features a great lineup of horticultural experts, educational sessions, trade show exhibitors and great networking opportunities.
