Heliae Agriculture’s PhycoTerra ST wins Product of the Year Award

Phoenix, Arizona-based Heliae Agriculture, an algal tech company specializing in regenerative agriculture solutions, announced Nov. 9 that its new seed treatment, PhycoTerra ST, received the 2021 Product of the Year Award by the Algae Biomass Organization.

The Algae Biomass Organization (ABO) announced the winners of its 2021 Algae Industry Awards at its annual Algae Biomass Summit, the world’s largest algae conference. The awards honor outstanding leaders, companies and innovations making a difference not only in the algae industry, but in the world at large. The Product of the Year Award specifically recognizes an innovation produced with algal technology that has made a significant impact in its markets.

“We are so pleased to honor PhycoTerra ST with the 2021 Product of the YearAward,” said Rebecca White, executive director of ABO, said in a news release. “At ABO, we believe in the power of algae to positively impact the way we grow our food, feed our livestock, and power our world. Our goal as an organization is to foster and support cutting-edge algal technology that is truly fueling global change. PhycoTerra ST upholds all of these principles, as an innovative algal product that is truly making a real-world impact in agricultural communities across the globe.”

PhycoTerra ST, launched by Heliae Agriculture earlier this year, is a result of over 13 years of research in the microalgae, soil and crop science fields. An innovative seed treatment, PhycoTerra ST is specifically designed to target and feed the microbes that live on and around seeds, which play a critical role in germination and stand establishment.

In recent third-party trials, PhycoTerra ST delivered increased ROI and yields across corn (ROI 67:1 and +10.2 bushels per acre), soybeans (ROI 21:1 and +2.4 bushels per acre), and wheat (ROI 13:1 and +4.9 bushels per acre). Many growers using the product this year also experienced similar yields and ROI increases.

“We are honored to be recognized by ABO with this award,” said Eric Lichtenheld, CEO at Heliae. “As the newest innovations in our soil microbial food product portfolio, PhycoTerra ST has shown increased yields and ROI in farmers’ fields. Thanks to its unique, balanced formula, PhycoTerra ST is economical for farmers, compatible with other seed treatments, and can be used on a variety of crops, including cover crops. PhycoTerra ST delivers a high-quality carbon source to the seed and improves the microbiome around the seed. Additionally, microalgae are renewable, sustainable, and adaptable, making our products key players in the future of agriculture.”
