Jun 24, 2024Land transition webinar available
A webinar designed to help growers transition land and businesses to the next generation is being made available by Penn State Extension.
Transitioning Land to a New Generation: Getting Started is a virtual on-demand recorded web seminar.
The seminar was recorded in late 2022 and is available online until Nov. 30.
The seminar is designed for new and beginning farmers as well as transitioning farmers.
Its purpose is to help growers navigate the complex financial, legal and interpersonal issues involved in land and business transfer. The seminar also looks at addressing three paths to land access: leasing, purchasing, and receiving land through inheritance or gift.
“Gain insights from leading experts on navigating land and business transfer complexities for new and transitioning farmers in this dynamic 2-hour on-demand webinar,” according to a news release.
“Partnering with the nation’s leading experts in land transfer, we are creating an adaptable, skills-based curriculum. This curriculum will serve ag service providers working with a new generation of producers and landowners as they navigate the complex financial, legal, and interpersonal issues involved in land and business transfer. Transitioning Land to a New Generation: Getting Started builds on our previous Beginning Farmer and Rancher Development Program grant project, Farmland for the Next Generation. It is part of many ongoing, multi-faceted partnerships with organizations committed to helping beginning producers succeed.”
The event is part of an American Farmland Trust curriculum.
Founded in 1980, American Farmland Trust is a land conservation group that focuses on land, agricultural practices used on that land and the farmers and ranchers. The Chevy Chase, Maryland-based AFT has helped permanently protect more than 6.8 million acres of agricultural lands, advanced environmental farming practices on millions of additional acres and supported thousands of farm families.
