Pursell Agri-Tech launches fertilizer plant in Alabama

Pursell Agri-Tech LLC and its industrial partner and shareholder Stamicarbon B.V., the innovation and licence company of Maire Tecnimont Group, have opened a new fertilizer coating facility in Sylacauga, Alabama. The plant that is owned by Pursell Agri-Tech will produce next-generation controlled-release fertilizers that will enhance nutrient-use efficiency and increase agricultural output and productivity while reducing the impact traditional fertilizers can have on the environment.

The system features a synergistic combination of unique coating materials applied through proprietary processing techniques in a low-cost modular facility design that allows plants to be placed close to the markets they serve, removing additional cost from production and distribution. The enhanced cost-efficiencies of the Pursell process will help the company’s controlled-release technologies be more accessible to broadacre cropping systems. Pursell Agri-Tech is partnering with Stamicarbon to license this technology to fertilizer producers, traders, blenders and distributors worldwide.

At the June 5 grand opening, Pursell hosted partners, stakeholders, fertilizer industry media, and current and future customers. The day’s events included:

  • Sharing a video that showcased the Pursell family’s – and state of Alabama’s – legacy of innovation in the fertilizer industry.
  • Speeches and comments from Taylor Pursell (Chairman, Pursell Agri-Tech), Nick Adamchak (CEO, Pursell Agri-Tech), Pejman Djavdan (Managing Director, Stamicarbon), Casper Kaastra (General Manager, La Coop Federee) and Mike Hudson (CEO, Diamond-R Fertilizer).
  • A ribbon-cutting ceremony to mark the official opening of the plant.
  • A plant tour that demonstrated the proprietary coating system Pursell has developed.

“We are proud to have Pursell Agri-Tech as our partner and want to congratulate them with the launch of their first controlled-release fertilizer plant. It is a wonderful feeling for a company to work alongside a strong partner sharing the same vision and values,” says Pejman Djavdan, Managing Director of Stamicarbon.

Pursell Agri-Tech’s first commercial facility is now operating in Sylacauga, Alabama where the company is producing its own branded controlled-release fertilizers products: Transcend™ for the broadacre agricultural market; Transcend SA™ for the high-value specialty ag market; and PurKote™ for the golf, turf, landscape and ornamental segment.

“The Pursell name has been synonymous with innovation in the fertilizer industry,” says Nick Adamchak, Chief Executive Officer of Pursell Agri-Tech. “We’re proud of our history, but we’re even more excited about what lies ahead. We’re delighted to be part of a larger team – and a larger effort – that is focused and committed to developing and delivering new sustainable, yield-enhancing technologies that can have a significant, lasting impact on global food security and the environment.”
