Strategic plan released by organic farming foundation

Working to foster the improvement and widespread adoption of organic farming systems, the Organic Farming Research Foundation (OFRF) has approved a long-term strategic plan.

OFRF’s 2024-2029 strategic plan sets the course for the next five years, outlining ambitious goals that align with the group’s mission, vision and values. It’s a roadmap that builds on OFRF’s foundation, adapts to today’s challenges and prepares the industry for the future of organic farming, according to a news release.

The plan strengthens OFRF’s commitment through regularly gathering feedback from organic and transitioning producers. It plans to introduce initiatives to directly support growers, shape research and education around their most pressing challenges, and create stronger connections between farmers, researchers, and local organizations, according to the release.

From creating more structured opportunities for farmers to share their insights, which will help guide the group’s work, to new resources addressing climate threats, OFRF is focused on ensuring farmers have the tools they need to thrive while leading the way in building resilient, sustainable farming systems, according to the release.

Organic Farming Research Foundation“We are thrilled to unveil our new five-year strategic plan, representing a significant step forward for OFRF and the organic farming community,” April Thatcher, OFRF’s board of directors’ president and founder and farmer of April Joy Farm, said in the release. “This plan not only reinforces our commitment to fostering organic agriculture but also sets ambitious goals to broaden our community and deepen our commitment to equity. These goals will guide our efforts over the next five years, ensuring that organic farming is recognized as the leading form of agriculture, benefiting both farmers and the planet.”

The plan works to advance climate solutions through organic practices, expand research and education opportunities, build advocacy work, and deepen its commitment to equity and inclusion.

“As we embark on this exciting journey with our new strategic plan, we’re committed to fostering collaboration and inclusivity within the organic farming community. Together, we can address the challenges ahead and work toward a sustainable future that benefits all farmers and our planet. We look forward to engaging with each of you as we turn our vision into action,” Keith Richards, OFRF’s board of directors chair, said in the release.

Based in Santa Cruz, California, OFRF is a national public interest organization dedicated to fostering the improvement and widespread adoption of organic farming systems. The organization was founded in 1990.
