USDA sets NOSB fall meeting dates

The National Organic Standards Board (NOSB) has scheduled its fall 2023 meeting, along with two virtual comment sessions for people unable to attend in person.

The meeting is Oct. 24-26 in Providence, Rhode Island, with special rate reservations at the Marriott Downtown Providence cut off on Sept. 25.

The NOSB will meet to discuss substances petitioned for addition to or deletion from the National List of Allowed and Prohibited Substances, substances due to sunset from the list in 2025 and recommendations on organic policies.

The NOSB typically meets twice a year. Prior to meetings, the NOSB reviews written public comments and listens to oral public comments.

The virtual comment sessions are scheduled for Oct. 19 and Oct. 19. The virtual sessions will be from noon to 5 p.m. Eastern on those days. The meeting in Providence will be from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Oct. 24-26.

During meetings, the NOSB discusses agenda items, and then votes on recommendations to Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack in a public forum. Detailed meeting information, including agendas and proposals, will be posted on the meeting website.
