The Vidalia Onion advisory panel conducted an in-depth review and voted Apr. 13 as the 2026 pack date, which Georgia ag commissioner Tyler Harper approved. The annual pack date is determined based on soil and weather conditions.
“Georgia’s Vidalia onions are coming to a store near you very soon, and we are thrilled that professional chefs, home cooks, and consumers across the globe will soon be enjoying the incredible, sweet flavor of our Georgia-g Grown Vidalia onions,” said Harper.
Vidalia onions thrive in a unique growing region spanning 20 counties in South Georgia. Their unique flavor results from a delicate balance of weather patterns and soil conditions found exclusively in this region.
“For the 2026 season, growers planted approximately 10,200 acres of Vidalia onions,” said Omar Cruz, chairman, Vidalia Onion Committee. “Our farmers work year-round to grow and harvest a crop that meets the high standards consumers expect from the Vidalia brand.”
Vidalia onions are cultivated using time-honored agricultural methods. Farmers hand-plant, harvest, and cure these onions to ensure each onion meets the quality standards consumers expect.
