Sep 1, 2020Washington governor eases restrictions on agritourism outlets
Washington state Gov. Jay Inslee announced Aug. 28 updated guidance for agritourism and the agricultural industry as part of Washington’s Safe Start phased reopening plan.
Rather than banning the activities, the revised rules give farms instructions on safeguarding customers from the coronavirus.
Some features, such as petting animals, still won’t be allowed, but operators regained most activities,
The new COVID-19 guidelines were issued eight days after the governor prohibited nearly all agritourism activities outside pumpkin patches and U-pick farms. Farmers asked the governor’s office to reconsider some restrictions.
Agritourism
The guidance has been updated to allow for additional activities for Phase 2 and 3:
- Animal viewing
- Hay/wagon/train rides
- Children’s play equipment/games
- Private firepit/bonfires
