Scholarships available for college students

Deadlines are approaching for undergraduate or graduate students who wish to be candidates for a Vegetable Industry Scholarship or a Jordan Tatter Scholarship.

Both of these scholarships are intended for students who are preparing for a career connected to the fruit and vegetable industries, preferably in Michigan or the Midwest.

The target amount of these scholarships is $1,500 for the Industry Scholarships (14 Fruit and Vegetable Industry Scholarships were awarded last year) and $2,500 for the Tatter Scholarships (only two awarded – one to an undergrad and one to a grad student).

Students can apply for both scholarships, but won't be awarded both. Industry Scholarship applicants do not have to be Michigan State University students.

The deadline for the Industry Scholarship applications is Sept. 30) and Oct. 10 for the Tatter Scholarships.

For the Industry Scholarships, students must be in at least in the second year of their two-year, four-year, master of science or Ph.D. program.

Copies of the application forms can be completed or downloaded at the Michigan Vegetable Council's website.

More information can be found on the website of the Great Lakes Fruit, Vegetable and Farm Market EXPO.
