Michigan ag industry mourns the passing of Michael Salisbury

Michael H. Salisbury, a prominent figure in Michigan agricultural economics, has died.

Salisbury died Aug. 18, at the age of 78. Born in Albion, Michigan, Salisbury earned his degrees from Utah State University before serving in the Vietnam War.

Returning to Michigan, Salisbury worked with the Farm Credit banking system and later founded Salisbury Management Services. His firm introduced innovative accounting and strategic management solutions to family farms nationwide, according to a news release.

Kelly Turner, executive director of the Michigan Potato Industry Commission, praised Salisbury’s contributions, noting his extensive work in succession and business planning for potato growers.

“He was a fixture at state and national meetings and a good friend to many,” Turner said in the release.

A memorial service is scheduled for Aug. 29 at Langeland Family Funeral Homes in Kalamazoo, Michigan.
