PVGA changes headquarters, seeks new board member nominations

The Pennsylvania Vegetable Growers Association has changed its contact information and is also seeking nominations for growers to serve on its board of directors.

With the hiring of Wanner Associates to manage the association, the address and phone number for the association has changed to: 908 North Second Street. Harrisburg, PA 17102, with a new telephone number for the Harrisburg office at 717-973-5915 to reach deputy executive director Tammy Linn. Until Dec. 15, the best way to telephone retiring executive director William Troxell in Richfield, the organization’s former headquarters, is 717-694-3596.

PVGA is also seeking board of directors nominations, PVGA announced in an Oct. 21 newsletter.

The terms of six members are scheduled to expire at the annual meeting scheduled for Jan. 31, during the Jan. 30-Feb. 1 Mid-Atlantic Fruit and Vegetable Convention in Hershey, Pennsylvania:

• Brian Campbell – Berwick – first elected 2007
• Peter Flynn – West Chester – first elected 2018
• Arthur King – Valencia – first elected 2018
• Michael Orzolek – State College – first elected 2015
• Amy Metrick – Butler – first elected 2018
• Mark Troyer – Waterford – first elected 2015

All the directors are eligible for re-election. The members will elect five members to the board and the board is set to name a sixth director. The board was given the opportunity to appoint one of the board members each year to provide diversity and potentially certain expertise in the board’s makeup that the election process does not always provide, according to PVGA’s newsletter.

The election will be conducted by a mail-in ballot that will be mailed to all members with the dues renewal notices in early December. The Leadership and Recognition Committee will be seeking additional nominees to be included on the ballot.

Members wishing to nominate board members or those who would like to be considered should contact the PVGA office or Brian Campbell, who as past president serves as committee chair at [email protected].

PVGA represents Pennsylvania’s vegetable, potato and berry growers. In 1998, the organization was instrumental in founding the Pennsylvania Vegetable Marketing and Research Program, a state marketing order for Pennsylvania vegetable growers established under the Pennsylvania Agricultural Commodities Marketing Act.
