Spookley Farm Program from Evergreen Creations marks 20th anniversary

Spookley the Square Pumpkin is turning 20 this fall and Evergreen Creations, an agritourism industry provider of farm-friendly “edutainment” content, is offering up some fun ways for farms and their visitors to be a key part of Spookley’s big celebration.

Evergreen Creations creates and distributes “edutainment” content that is featured at family-friendly agritourism farms, farmers’ markets and garden centers worldwide in field trip programs, retail markets and on-farm activities.

Spookley the Square Pumpkin is a children’s character initially created by children’s author Joe Troiano when his young son, Nicholas, asked him for a bedtime story – something not scary, something about pumpkins. Joe Troiano’s bedtime story became The Legend of Spookley the Square Pumpkin, a book that has inspired multiple best-selling books, two animated specials that air on Disney Junior and Netflix, and an alliance with the National Bullying Prevention Center.

Spookley’s popularity has also grown in the agritourism industry, where every fall an expanding group of farms participates in Evergreen Creations’ Spookley Farm Program to feature Spookley in on-farm education and entertainment.

For this 20th anniversary year, Evergreen Creations is waiving its Spookley Farm Program membership fee to allow as many farms as possible to share Spookley’s story with their visitors. Evergreen Creations is also unveiling some new resources, including a special “Spookley’s 20th” corn maze design, signage-based activities to place throughout the farm (e.g., a “kindness scavenger hunt”), press release templates, customized commercials, national prize giveaways and more.

The special anniversary resources will all tie in with the Spookley brand’s overall campaign taking place under the headline of “20 Years of Celebrating Kindness, Acceptance, and Inclusion with Spookley the Square Pumpkin.”

“Spookley is a beloved character with a timely message,” Aaron Burakoff, founder of the Spookley Farm Program and a core member of the Spookley brand management team, said in a news release. “We are excited to work with as many farmers as possible to help spread kindness this upcoming fall.”
