Sweet corn movement declines

U.S. sweet corn movement is down from last fall.

On Sept. 17, the USDA’s Specialty Crops Market News Federal and State Market News Service reported seasonal sweet corn movement was 4.5 million 42-pound packages, down from 5.7 million as of Sept. 16 in 2023.

The leading production regions reporting shipments were California’s central region, Imperial Valley and southern region, Georgia, New York and Michigan.

The shipments accounted for 96% of U.S. shipments, which include smaller volumes from Canada, Mexico and Guatemala.

For field corn, USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service’s September Crop Production report showed corn for grain production is projected at 15 billion bushels, down 1% from 2023.
