Indoor farming seminar emphasizes sustainability

A web seminar on indoor farming systems will emphasize their value as sustainable food systems.

The hour-long seminar, 2 p.m. Eastern, Sept. 8, is sponsored by SmartBrief, and features Rick Vanzura, CEO of Freight Farms, and Oshima, chief marketing officer and co-founder of AeroFarms, Dan Ripma, vice president of food and agriculture at S2G Ventures, and Audrey Altmann, SmartBrief food and beverage editor.

“Indoor farming systems allow for fruit and vegetable growers of nearly any size to ensure robust crop production in controlled environments via agricultural technology such as LED lighting, precision irrigation and air management systems,” according to a news release. “The global vertical farming market is projected to grow to $25.1 billion by 2030, representing a compound annual growth rate of 23.3% since 2021, according to a Market Research Future report.”

Consumers are interested in the sustainability stories behind the food they eat and are more open to new technologies in food production than ever before. Retailers and food brands can offer valuable knowledge to consumers about the sustainability claims of produce from vertical farms as well as the specific growing conditions of these indoor facilities.
