GreenVenus unveils fast-growing lettuce varieties for indoor farming

GreenVenus, an agricultural technology company based in Davis, California, has announced the development of fast-growing lettuce cultivars designed for indoor farming.

In a recent press release, GreenVenus shared that these new varieties, which grow nearly twice as fast and produce more biomass than conventional lettuce, are optimized for controlled-environment agriculture such as vertical farms.

The vertical farming industry has faced challenges due to high operational costs, primarily driven by energy needs, and the lack of plant varieties that thrive under artificial light and controlled climate conditions, the company’s press release noted. GreenVenus’ new lettuce aims to address these issues by providing a crop better suited to the unique conditions of indoor farming.

“With our introduction of faster-growing lettuce varieties and our commitment to developing additional crop cultivars, GreenVenus intends to reduce the cost of indoor cultivation and make a sustainable impact on the industry,” said Shiv Tiwari, CEO of GreenVenus.

The company also plans to develop other high-value crops, including berries, tomatoes and spinach for indoor farming.
