Bayer’s Culinary Council aims to shape future of vegetable breeding

Bayer Vegetable Seeds has created a Culinary Council to collaborate with chefs and foodservice experts, aiming to influence the future breeding of vegetables that meet both consumer and grower needs.

The council held its inaugural event on Aug. 22 in San Diego, where members explored Bayer’s vegetable products, discussed industry trends, and collaborated on product development.

The Culinary Council includes chefs and nutrition experts who provide feedback to shape Bayer’s seed innovations. During the event, participants used Bayer’s fresh seasonal produce in a market basket competition, providing valuable input on product performance and flavor.

“The seeds we provide need to work for both farmers as well as consumers,” said Jenny Maloney, director of industry relations for Bayer Vegetable Seeds. “By bringing this diverse group of culinarians together, we had the opportunity to taste and work with our products and discuss industry issues facing foodservice.”

By connecting culinary professionals with Bayer’s research and development teams, the council helps guide innovations that benefit vegetable growers. Bayer’s seed brands, such as Seminis and De Ruiter, are already known for solutions like High Rise broccoli stems, which are gaining popularity in specialty markets.

The Culinary Council’s feedback will help steer the future of vegetable breeding. For more information, visit bayer.com.
