Crookham plans Onion Reveal 2023

The Crookham Co. is scheduling an event to highlight its onion varieties.

Onion Reveal 2023 is planned for Aug. 29. The event, in Wilder, Idaho, is scheduled for 9:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

Crookham breeder Lyndon Johnson recently released a series of growing guidelines for several popular commercial varieties, including Avalon, Scout, Epic, Trident, Caldwell, Defender, Caliber, White Cloud, White Cap, Brundage, Red Beret and Purple Haze. Other pre-commercial varieties are also being tested in the trial.

“I’ve had the opportunity to talk with several growers over the years and get their feedback, and some tips began to emerge on best practices with several hybrids,” Johnson said in a news release. “With Crookham, you get the ability to chat with the breeders and everyone involved in the process of bringing innovative and high-quality seed to the market. Expect more than great seed as Crookham can also be counted on to provide growers with superior product development and service after the sale.”

The event shows Crookham continues its commitment for relevant and versatile varieties for all markets, from the Pacific Northwest Basin to the Eastern U.S., according to the release.

The Crookham Co. plans to highlight Pacific Northwest onion varieties in its Aug. 29 Onion Reveal 2023.

“We have a long and intermediate day portfolio that can add versatility to most programs,” Crookham said in the release. “Our onions are designed to be used in many different conditions and when combined with Crookham’s knowledge and product development teams, a grower has several choices for their onion lineup.”

For directions, participants can telephone 208-459-7451. If growers are unable to attend the Reveal in person, they can contact Johnson for a personal tour or join Lyndon virtually via smartphone. Contact Johnson at [email protected].

Growing guidelines are available on Crookham’s website for the Trident, Defender, Caldwell, Caliber and Epic varieties.

Founded in 1911, Crookham, based in Caldwell, Idaho, is a family-owned business that in addition to supplying onions, supplies sweet corn and popcorn seed for conventional and organic production.
