Wallace Martin, Texas produce hall of fame member, dies

The Texas International Produce Association has announced the passing of Wallace Wiley Martin of Carrizo Springs, Texas late last week.

“Mr. Martin was a member of the Texas Produce Hall of Fame, a great-grandfather, a life-long farmer, a teacher, a WW II pilot and a pillar of his community,” the announcement stated. “Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family.”

Martin  worked with Texas A&M in the development of the Yellow Granex and 1015Y Super Sweet onions. He was a past recipient of the Texas Vegetable Association Lifetime Achievement Award and was inducted into the 2016 Texas International Produce Hall of Fame.
