Michigan Onion Committee set

Gov. Rick Snyder has made appointments and reappointments to the Michigan Onion Committee.

Appointed was Mike Meyer, of Hudsonville, and reappointed were Mark Nail, of Marshall, and Eric Schreur, of Hudsonville.

The five-member committee prepares and oversees the onion marketing program budget and makes amendment recommendations to the marketing program, which supports the advancement of Michigan's onion industry.

“I am confident the decades of farming experience these appointees bring to the board will be an asset to the advancement of Michigan’s onion industry,” said Snyder in a news release.

Meyer is president of Bosgraaf Sales Co., a packing operation. He has been a member of the National Onion Association for more than 15 years, where he serves on the promotions committee and was previously vice president and president. He replaces Glenn Leep.

Nail is owner of Mark Nail Farms, where he grows onions, corn and soybeans. He has 20 years of onion growing experience and does custom hire work.

Schreur is field manager of Schreur Farms Inc., where he grows onions and celery. He has farmed for 22 years. Schreur earned a bachelor’s degree in horticulture from Michigan State University.

Appointees will serve three-year terms expiring Aug. 16, 2016. Their appointments are not subject to the advice and consent of the Senate.
